Painting Female Face and Flowers
I was inspired by old Hollywood glamour photography of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, in particular a photo of Bette Davis in her very early career. As for the flowers, I thought it would be nice to add bold color in the design which would frame/wrap one side of the canvas. These are very like wild, country roses.
- 12×12 inch canvas – Female, Study in Violet
- Acrylic paint
- Acrylic medium
- Tissue paper
Are you wondering where the tissue paper is? I cut individual tissue paper flower petals and then applied them with medium. Later, I painted over them. I like tissue paper for backgrounds. In this mixed media painting, I used tissue paper to create a colorful background.
All that remains is for me to frame this picture. I’m going to do that myself. I’ll miter cut some plain wood trim, stain it, attach it with small nails meant for the job, wood fill the nail holes, reapply stain, and then attach a picture hanger on the back. When I get around to doing this. I’ll try to include a tutorial.
