Striped Crochet Baby Blanket

I love this striped crochet baby blanket pattern. The stitch design also adds a certain elegance. Once you crochet a few rows, you don’t need to refer to the pattern.

Striped Crochet Baby Blanket

While the Crochet Stripes Pattern is designed to make a square blanket, I crocheted a rectangle (28″ wide x 48″ long – vertical stripes) so that the blanket can be used in a baby crib. I also stitched single crochet stitches all around the blanket once, and then I crocheted single stitch up the long sides. You can see the edging in the picture above. Below you can see the stitch in more detail.

I used Plymouth Yarn Encore cream (#256) and sea green (#801). I like this yarn; it’s 75% acrylic and 25% wool. It has a nice texture and it blocks beautifully. The best thing is that it looks expensive knitted up, and you can drop it in the washing machine (delicate cycle, cold wash) to clean. I always put my delicate items, including knitted or crocheted blankets in a lingerie bag before washing. The bag prevents the yarn from stretching or getting pulled.

If you need to make a baby blanket for an upcoming baby shower, I think you could easily crochet this in a few sittings. If you make up this pattern, share a link to your finished product in the comments. Happy crocheting. Oh, and if you want to add a handmade toy to the package, crochet a bunny rattle.
