Have you been searching for an easy to crochet ripple blanket, also known as a zigzag blanket? Well, search no longer. This is a pattern you can easily crochet. Additionally, once you’ve established about 6 rows, you can follow the stitches from the row below the row you’re working on. You won’t have to continually refer to the pattern.
Crochet Ripple Blanket for Beginners
Sized for a crib or baby carriage
- Hook 5.0 or 5.5 MM
- Yarn used in this pattern: Loops and Threads Snuggly Wuggly (DK 11 wpi) Note: I purchased 2 skeins of the lavender and 2 of the white; however, upon completing the project, 90% of the lavender skein remained and 90% of the white skein remained. It’s possible that you could do this project with only 1 skein of each color; however, it’s better to have leftover yarn than to be short and unable to find the yarn again.
- Scissors and needle for weaving in ends
With color 1, chain 136.
Row 1: DC in 4th chain from hook • skip next chain • [DC in next 9 chains] • (DC, chain 1, DC) in next chain • DC in next 9 chains • [DC2tog-over 3]-5 times • DC in next 9 chains • (DC, chain 1, DC) in next chain • DC in next 9 chains • skip next chain, DC2tog • turn. You should have 6 ripples.
Row 2: Chain 3 • DC in the first stitch •skip next stitch • DC in next 9 stitches • (DC, chain 1, DC) in next chain-1 space • DC in next 9 stitches • [DC2tog-over 3]-5 times • DC in next 9 stitches • (DC, chain 1, DC) in next stitch • DC in next 9 stitches • skip next stitch • DC2tog, turn.
Row 3: Repeat row 2. Fasten off. Begin row 4 with color 2.
For the blanket, you will continue to repeat row 2.
This pattern is for 3 rows of color 1 and 3 rows of color 2.
Weave in any loose ends.
For the border: I crocheted 3 rows of single crochet all around the blanket. In the corners, I stitched 2 single crochet stitches. On the sides without single chains to stitch into, crochet 2 single crochet stitches into each double crochet space.
I forgot to measure my finished blanket before I wrapped it as a gift, but it will fit a crib nicely. I like this pattern because it looks good horizontally and vertically.
