I just finished crocheting a granny square afghan for my son. This will be one of his gifts at Christmas (yes, he’ll be thrilled). I used colors that I thought would look nice on his sofa. His girlfriend will appreciate it if he does not. It’s nice to snuggle under a blanket when watching a movie!
I used five colors of Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn which can be found at Michaels stores. It’s practical yarn for a boy who will throw this in the washer and dryer.
If you can crochet a granny square, you can make this afghan. I expanded my square to 5 feet by 5 feet, a great size for an afghan. When you reach a size you like, finish the afghan with a double crochet stitch in every stitch around the blanket (two in the corners). It strengthens the edge and polishes the look of the blanket.

Hello, I am interested in the edging you used on your granny square, when crocheting the edging around the four corners do you add extra stitches (as we are taught to do going around corners of blankets)? Also in the chain one areas… how do you treat those?
Thank you
Hi Stacie,
I wish I had the blanket to refer to so that I could better answer your question. I may have to get back to you on a good answer. My son now has the blanket. I think you’ll find some helpful tips here: http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2009/3/24/joelles-giant-granny-square.html
